Palestine says its President Yasser Arafat's health has been stable and receiving further treatments.
Arafat's spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh made the statement Wednesday night, adding that medical teams from Egypt and Jordan were expected to diagnose Arafat on Thursday.
Earlier, Palestinian's Information Minister Yasser Rabbo denied reports that Arafat had lost consciousness.
Palestinian President Yasser Arafat's health was reported having suddenly deteriorated by numerous agencies after doctors and senior officials were summoned to his headquarters in Ramallah.
The 75-year-old Arafat has been ill for the past two weeks, complaining of stomach pains. He was diagnosed to have a large gallstone on Tuesday.
A further checking on Wednesday ruled out that Arafat had cancer.
Arafat was elected president of the Palestinian Authority in 1996. Palestinian officials have not selected a successor, prompting worries that his eventual death will lead to chaos in the fight to choose a new leader.
Any battles between rival security chiefs could then further hurt prospects for an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal.
