The 14th session of the 10th Jilin Provincial People's Congress passed a resolution Saturday, accepting the resignation of Hong Hu from the post of provincial governor and appointing Wang Min as deputy governor and acting governor.

Wang, a native of Anhui Province born in March 1950, just became deputy secretary of Jilin Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) earlier this October. He was made deputy governor of Jiangsu Province, east China, in December 1996.With a doctorate in machinery manufacturing, Wang served as farmer, worker, college teacher and deputy president of Nanjing Aeronautics and Astronautics University before July 1994.

Hong Hu made the headlines earlier for publishing a letter to openly apologize for a shop fire that killed 51 people in February this year. It was the first public apology made by such a high-ranking official in China in recent years for a fatal accident.
