font size

The World Engineers' Convention opens Tuesday in Shanghai, China Radio International reported on Tuesday.

Under the theme of "engineers shape the sustainable future", the 5-day meeting welcomes some 3,000 engineers from around the world. Jose Medem Sanjuan is the former president of World Federation of Engineering Organization.

"China can run this conference successfully and Shanghai is, in my opinion, the ideal venue for this very important meeting. I think that we made the right choice."

The convention covers topics such as computerized network infrastructure, bio-engineering and life sciences, natural resources and energy, and environmentally-friendly manufacturing.

Organisers say they have received some 800 theses, including 174 delivered by overseas engineers to the convention.

An exhibition on major Chinese engineering projects, including the Three Gorges Project and the manned space program are showcased during the convention.
