China leads East Asia and Pacific Region in poverty eradication: World Bank

The World Bank says Tuesday that due to Chinese economy's robust growth, the impoverished population in East Asia and pacific regions has dropped to all-time low, the Hong Kong based Wen Wei Po reported.

EAP Vice President Jemal-ud-din Kassum says, "the number of impoverished population has dropped to the lowest level in history, and the worsening of the poverty caused by the financial storm of 1997 has finally been tackled.'

The World Bank says that number of people who live on less than two US dollars a day will decrease to less than one third of the total population in the region at certain time this or next year. East Asia has not only made progress in economy and society, but also seen noted improvement in politics.
