About 120,000 migrant workers from north China's Hebei Province will come to Beijing to join in the building industry, said resources from the Hebei provincial department of construction.
The provincial department has just signed an agreement on behalf of these workers with the labor force association of the building industry of Beijing.
According to the agreement, these workers will join the construction of major projects in Beijing, including the key projects for the 2008 Olympic Games.
Zhu Zhengju, director of the Hebei provincial department of construction, said that construction began on most projects for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games this year. Beijing now faces an increasing demand for construction workers.
To meet the demand, the neighboring Hebei Province has made long-term plans to send migrant workers to Beijing, said Zhu.
The building industry of Beijing has attracted the most migrant workers -- more than 850,000 from all parts of China, said resources from the Beijing municipal committee of construction.
To better protect interests of all migrant workers in Beijing, the city has made series of regulations to ensure timely payment and legal rights of the increasing migrant workers.
Statistics show that almost all migrant workers in Beijing got their payment in 2003 when the country launched the large-scale movement to protect migrant workers' interests.
With the fast urbanization process in China, more and more migrant workers moved to the cities and integrated with the cities. Currently, many Chinese cities such as Beijing are facing new social problems brought with the increasing migrant workers. Some of these are the education of migrant workers' children and housing for migrant workers.
