Climber dies on Wutong Mountain
font size

A man died in a fall on Wutong Mountain on Tuesday.

The dead man, surnamed Xi, was a 24-year-old employee from an electronics company in Futian Free Trade Zone.

He was hiking on the mountain with 12 colleagues when the accident happened. The group was descending through the Taishan Ravine when Xi slipped and fell down a 30-meter precipice.

The Wutong Mountain management office said the Taishan Ravine was the most beautiful but most dangerous on the mountain. Although the office has set up some special steps with rails for hikers, some tourists still risked their necks by climbing the precipice for a broad view of the ravine.

It was the second accident on the mountain Tuesday. A 20-year-old woman fell at the same precipice earlier and suffered serious head injuries, the Daily Sunshine reported.

A doctor said she was in a stable condition.
