Beijing Ducks beat Henan Raptors 98-88 here on Sunday in an opening round match of the 2004-2005 regular season Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) League.
American Olumide Oyedeji scored game-high 32 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Ducks while Chinese international Zhang Yunsong added 24 points and five assists.
The newly promoted Henan Raptors were obviously nervous in their CBA debut. They just could not shot the ball, allowing the Ducks jump to a 15-4 lead in the first quarter.
With the 2.05-meter Oyedeji dominating inside and Zhang Yusong, who in August took part in the Athens Olympic Games where China finished eighth, continually tearing open the Henan defense with clever passes, Beijing coasted to a comfortable 56-45 lead at the half time and improved to 83-59 at the end of the third.
In the middle of the fourth period, the Ducks substituted their starters out.
"My players tried their best, but they were not in top shape," said the Beijing Ducks' head coach Min Lulei.
"In the fourth quarter, I gave the bench players some opportunities to play, but they did not do very well."
The Ducks finished 8-for-20 from beyond the arch while the Raptors were only 2-for-24.
