Chinese police have seized 80 kg (176 pounds) of heroin and captured two suspects in Lanzhou, the capital of northwest China's Gansu Province, according to the provincial public security bureau.

The 80 kg haul was seized on Nov. 16 in a joint operation involving police from Yunnan and Gansu provinces.

Yunnan police from were tipped off on Nov. 8 that the heroin would be transported to Lanzhou. They set up a special team with police from Gansu to carry out the joint operation.

Police arrested the two suspects, surnamed Zhou and Kang, as they were doing a deal near a small lake in Lanzhou city. Police soon found the heroin hidden between planks in containers at a freight yard in Lanzhou.
