Pakistan Wednesday carried out a successful test-fire of a nuclear-capable ballistic missile as part of efforts to boost its nuclear capability, according to a press release issued by the armed forces' Inter Services Public Relations Directorate.
The successful test of a surface-to-surface Hatf-IV or Shaheen-I with a range of 700 kilometers was conducted and the missile can carry nuclear and other type of warheads, the press release said, adding all the required technical, parameters and designs were verified.
"The recently conducted successful missile tests, carried out for technical reasons, are nevertheless indicative of the government's resolve to consolidate and strengthen Pakistan's nuclear deterrence capability," said the press release.
It said Pakistan had notified the neighboring countries about the test, a practice also observed by arch rival India.
Pakistan's Hatf series of missiles have already been handed over to the Army Strategic Forces Command.
