Income of Tibetan farmers and herdsmen grows by 22 percentIn the past three quarters of 2004, the per capita cash income of the farmers and herdsmen in Tibet Autonomous Region hit RMB1, 035 yuan, up 187 yuan or 22 percent from the same period last year. The growth rate is one of the highs in recent years and has surpassed that among urban residents. Tibet also has had its first village with a per capita income of more than 10, 000 yuan. It is predicted that the net income of farmers and herdsmen throughout the year will reach the pre-set goal of 1, 850 yuan. The rapid growth of income owes to the fast developing characteristic industries in farming and pastoral areas and the structural adjustment in agriculture and husbandry, which played a key role.
