The Democratic People's Republicof Korea (DPRK) on Tuesday assailed Japan's new national defense program outline, labeling it as "a move as dangerous as whipping up a war chariot of militarism toward overseas aggression".
The Japanese government approved a new edition of its key defense document on Dec. 10, which features more proactive use of force and deeper involvement of the self-defense-oriented troops in international affairs, evoking concerns over the authority of its war-renouncing constitution.
"It means the total lifting of the scores of years-long post-war 'restrictions' on Japan's military actions," the major newspaper of Rodong Sinmun said in a signed commentary.
The newspaper also accused Japan of "taking advantage of the US policy for stifling the DPRK."
"The DPRK has never posed any military threat to Japan and the Korean people don't want tense situation and military conflicts inAsia including the Korean Peninsula," said the commentary.
