China's proposed Anti-Secession Law aims for the peaceful reunification of the country, Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao in Beijing on December 23 at a regular press conference.

"The NPC initiated the legislative process of the Anti-Secession Law with the sole purpose of containing separatist activities of the forces seeking the 'Taiwan independence'," Liu said.

He commented that the law "will be conducive to the stability and prosperity across the Taiwan Strait and the Asia-Pacific region at large."

China will continue to stick to the principles of "peaceful reunification" and "one country, two systems," Liu said.

"We are willing and determined to make utmost efforts with utmost sincerity for the realization of the peaceful reunification," he said.

The Chinese government, however, will never allow any force to separate Taiwan from China in any way or under any pretext, he stressed.

The National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, announced that China will enact a law against secession a week ago.

The draft of anti-secession law will be submitted for deliberation at the 13th session of the 10th NPC Standing Committee, scheduled on Dec. 25-29 in Beijing.
