Stoneware, pottery, jade articles, graves these are being excavated at the Beidaling site in Duan Yao Autonomous County of Guangxi. By far an area of nearly 10,000 square meters has been excavated, of which 1,200 square meters were once a Neolithic workshop. According to experts the Beidaling site is by far the largest Neolithic workshop discovered in China.
"The Beidaling site is situated on an earthy mountain at the joint of the Diao River in the Hongshui River valley and the Hongshui River. It is about 7,000 years old. In 1992 archeologists discovered this site while surveying cultural relics at the flooded area near Letan Hydropower Station. But it is still being studied." said Lin Qiang, associate fellow at Guangxi Cultural Relics Working Team.
The reporter found that various excavated rocks of different sizes were laid side by side on the ground forming a spectacle scene of "small Stone Forest". Various stone materials, half-finished articles, broken parts and pieces are excavated now and then. There were also many stone hammers, stone anvils, rubstones and pottery etc. Altogether tens of thousands have been excavated.
"These stones were obviously moved here from the riverbed below. They made them into tools for hunting and planting. Judging from the thickness of the article pile the ancient men had lived here for at least a hundred years, which means this place was once a large workshop where the ancient men made and process stone articles." said Lin Qiang.
