A scholar says Taiwan authorities' move to revise the teaching guidelines on history is an attempt at Taiwan Independence.

A renowned scholar in Taiwan says Taiwan authorities' move to revise the teaching guidelines on history is part of a gradual push towards an attempt at Taiwan Independence.

Professor Wang Zhongfu from the Taiwan Culture University notes Taiwan history is part of that of China and the Taiwan authorities' deliberate move to separate the two will only make young students feel ambiguous about their Chinese identity.

The professor also warns this type of education focusing on separation will be very harmful to the youth.

Taiwan education authorities' latest edition of teaching guidelines on history in senior middle schools, require Taiwan history be taught independently and historical facts related to Taiwan, including the Cairo Declaration, be removed.
