Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi says China made considerable progress on dealing with the issues of protection of intellectual property rights in 2004.

Addressing the opening ceremony of the Sino-US roundtable conference on IPR protection, Wu Yi says the Chinese government organized a high-level work group on IPR protection last year.

She also says the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate issued a judicial interpretation in order to increase the legal protection of Intellectual Property Rights.

The annual conference was proposed by US Ambassador to China Clark T. Randt, and aims to promote exchanges and contacts between the two countries on IPR protection issues.

US Secretary of Commerce Donald Evans also attended the conference held in Beijing on Thursday.
