Taiwan independence advocates pose "a realistic threat"
font size

Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan said in Beijing Tuesday that the separatist attempts of the Taiwan Independence force is "a realistic threat" to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and the Asia Pacific region as a whole.

"If the Taiwan Authorities headed by Chen Shui-bian is sincere about easing relations across the strait, it should stop separatist activities," Tang said at a meeting with a delegation of Chinese Americans from the US Committee of 100.

The delegation head, C. B. Sung, told Tang that his committee supports the one-China policy and stands firmly against Taiwan independence.

Tang said China and the United States enjoy a broad consensus and good foundation for cooperation.

"We are willing to join hands with the US side to implement the consensus between the leaders of the two sides, improve coordination and cooperation and properly handle each other's concerns to push forward cooperative relations," he said.

Sung said the Committee of 100 will make more efforts to promote the China-US relations.

The Committee of 100 was founded in 1990 by a group of prominent Chinese Americans. It serves as a bridge between the cultures and systems of Asia and America.
