Hamas to cease fire on conditions
font size

Hamas leaders say they will be ready to positively deal with a ceasefire with Israel only if Israel ends its military operations in the Palestinian territories.

Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said in Gaza that the conditions for a ceasefire also include assassinations and incursions into the Palestinian territories as well as the release of Palestinian prisoners.

Hamas leaders have held two meetings in less than one week with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas in Gaza, aimed at keeping the dialogue on declaring a ceasefire with Israel.

The spokesman said the two sides talked about calmness in Gaza and a cessation of attacks against Israel and against Jewish settlements.

During Saturday's meeting, Hamas leaders told Abbas they would never accept the dropping of their arms.
