The China Shipbuilding Industry Corp.(CSIC), the largest shipbuilding company in China, received more than six million tons of new ship orders in 2004, ranking first in domestic shipbuilding companies.

Li Changyin, CSIC general manager said this during its national meeting held Monday in Beijing.

The CSIC built 2.14 million tons of new ships in 2004, up 30 percent year on year. Its business sales were 39.9 billion yuan in 2004, up 37 percent.

China's shipbuilding companies built 8.5 million tons of new ships in 2004, accounting for 17 percent of the world market.

At present the company has 10.24 million tons of new ship orders at hand, with a contractual value of 47.4 billion yuan.

The CSIC has made great achievements in producing supporting facilities, which China's shipbuilding companies are not good at. The company developed the first intellectualized engine and diesel engine with largest power in China.

Li said the company will build three million tons of ships valued at 50 billion yuan in 2005.
