Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni Wednesday called on Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels to give uptheir 18-year-long fight against the government in northern Uganda.
Addressing a rally to mark his government's 19th Victory Day atKololo Ceremonial Grounds in eastern Kampala, Museveni said that rebel leader Joseph Kony's group "has been completely defeated andits remnants are simply fugitives whom we are capturing day-by-day."
Museveni urged those still loyal to Kony to come out of hiding in northern Uganda and surrender, promising they would be treated well.
"Those still remaining in the bush should come out now because they have nothing to fear," he added.
He said after the movement government took power in 1986, the Uganda embarked on the new successful minimum recovery program, adding that some of the achievements like the restoration of constitutionalism and addressing issues pertaining to marginalizedgroups in the country.
