Olympic venues to be completed in 2007: BOCOG president

Beijing should ensure the completion of newly-built and renovated venues by the end of 2007 to meet the requirement of the test games, the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. It should try to hold the two games at high level with characteristics.

The above remarks were made by Liu Qi, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and also the Party secretary of Beijing municipality and president of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG).

Liu Qi said, the construction of Olympic venues is a heavy task and the schedule has been very tight. The principle of frugality should be followed in the construction of Olympic venues and auxiliary facilities. The city should also take the construction, management and post-game utilization into consideration. The monitoring over capital use and construction should be strengthened. The constructors should quicken their pace of their work in permanent and temporary venues under the prerequisite of the integration of safety, quality, function, schedule and cost.
