Beijing to invest 7 bln in subway construction

Beijing plans to invest 7.05 bln yuan in construction of new subway in 2005. The construction of subway line 5 will be completed and equipment installation is to begin.

Of the total investment of 7.05 bln yuan to be made in 2005, 2.08 bln is for line 4, 2.21 bln for line 5 and 2.76 bln goes to line 10, introduced Yue Guiping, Assistant Chief Engineer of the Rail Transportation Construction and Management Co,. Ltd of Beijing

This year half of construction work for the first section of the line 4 will be finalized; 20 percent of work for its 2nd and 3rd sections will be completed. The principal parts of stations on line 5 will be built and equipment installation will be in full swing. Half work of line 5 will be completed too.

Public invitation to bid on equipment and supervision for line 5 are to be completed in this year. And the invitation to bid on equipment for line 4 and line 10 lines will begin. Compared with the current subway lines, the new lines under construction have taken people's needs into consideration. Transfer has been made more convenient for the disabled and timesaving, said Wu Hongjian, the General Manager of the Rail Transportation Construction and Management Co,.Ltd of Beijing.

Enclosed platform with safety doors will be built at the new lines, which reduces noise and dusts and serves to prevent passengers from falling off platform.
