Mubarak meets Abbas on Mideast peace
font size

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak met with visiting Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas in the Red Sea resort Tuesday morning to discuss ways to reactivate the stalled Mideast peace process.

Mubarak, Abbas, together with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Jordan's King Abdullah II, will attend a key summit on Mideast peace, which is due to be held later in the day.

Israeli and Palestinian officials said on Monday that Sharon and Abbas will declare a formal ceasefire at the summit, a move which would rekindle hopes of resuming peace talks between the two sides.
