Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's top aide Raanan Gissin said in Sharm El-Sheikh Tuesday the Palestinians and Israel would issue separate declarations at a summit being held in this Egyptian Red Sea resort.
"Two separate statements will be made today. One by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, one by Israeli Prime Minister Sharon. The two statements are unilateral declarations, but they will end up with a bilateral result," Gissin told reporters.
"What is going to be announced is, of course, a ceasefire," he said.
"The Palestinians will announce a cessation of all forms of violence, and Israel will announce a cessation of all forms of military activities against all Palestinians. It means both sides will commit themselves to taking necessary steps by phases," he said.
"The necessary steps start tomorrow. There can be great hope for the Palestinians, Israelis and the whole region," he said.
"If the Palestinians cease fire, it means a complete cessation to violence, incitement and terrorism. When Israel says refraining from military activities, it means refraining from all military activities against all Palestinians. Both parties will fulfill the requirements to the extend that we can move forward back to the roadmap peace plan," he said.
"We deal only with the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), the legitimate sovereign government of the Palestinians," he said.
"A ceasefire with Hamas and Islamic Jihad is something the PNA should do. They (Palestinians) have to bring a complete ceasefire of violence and dismantle militant organizations in order to realize the two-state solution," he said.
As far as the leadership is concerned, there is commitment and consensus for peace and stability between them, he said.
