Cartagena hospital rebuffs operation of Maradona

The director of Medeigel Clinic of Cartagena, doctor Francisco Holguin, rebuffed Tuesday that former soccer star, Argentine Diego Maradona will undergo an abdominal liposuchtion, although he did accept that the ex-player underwent some examinations.

"I don't know from where did such information leak out. As far as I am concerned, Maradona is not going to undergo such a surgical procedure. Yet, I have seen him twice have his arterial tension checked," he said.

"What I can say is that his health is fine; that his hypertension problems have decreased since his time in Buenos Aires. Here we've only helped him out with his medicine," the doctor added.

"I have gone to see him a couple of times to check his pressure. Additionally, he has come twice for laboratory tests, which indicate he is within the parameters," Holguin added.

The doctor said he does not know how much longer will Maradona be in Colombia. "Any time now he could decide whether he stays some more days or if he leaves," he said.

Rumours about a possible operation of the Argentine personality came after information published by news agency TELAM, which indicated that "Maradona came to Cartagena for an abdominal reduction operation, which would contribute to his drug-addiction treatment."
