Lebanese president investigating ex-PM's assassination
font size

Lebanese President Emile Lahoud has vowed to carry out a thorough investigation into the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

Lahoud describes Hariri's death as a heavy blow for Lebanon's efforts in social and economic reconstruction after the civil war.

He also calls for consensus and conciliation among all Lebanese people.

Meanwhile Swiss Foreign Ministry confirms Switzerland is considering Lahuod's request to help investigate Hariri's assassination.

In another development, the relatives of Hariri are urging the Lebanese government to provide an investigative report as soon as possible.

They also call for the establishment of an international commission to probe the incident that threatened the stability of Lebanon.
