Ethiopia hopes to share China's experiences in bamboo-processing
font size

Ethiopian State Minister of Trade and Industry Tadesse Haile said Saturday his country has the desire to share China's experiences in bamboo-processing.

He said the resource in the country was largely led to waste due to the lack of due attention to the proper utilization of bamboo.

Tadesse was speaking here at a workshop on ways of optimizing the utilization of bamboo in view of its importance in poverty reduction.

A study paper presented on the occasion said the volume of bamboo production in Ethiopia is estimated at one-fourth of that produced in China.

According to the study, bamboo harvest in Ethiopia constitutes 67 percent of the total production in Africa.

Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Lin Lin, State Minister Tadesse and the trainees of the workshop watched displays of various furniture made from bamboo.

The Chinese government financed the training organized jointly by Ethiopia's Micro and Small Scale Trade Development Agency and a Beijing-based organization.

Some 26 pertinent professionals drawn from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as well as from other regional states have attended the workshop.
