font size

DPR Korea beat Chinese Hong Kong 2-0 in Taipei, China, Sunday night to reach the finals of the East Asian football championship, according to reports reaching here on Monday.

After beating Chinese Hong Kong, DPR Korea will join its neighbor South Korea, as well as Japan and China for the tournament finals slated in late July in South Korea.

The nightmare began for Chinese Hong Kong on 43 minutes when DPR Korea headed home the opening goal and its dream of qualification was completely smashed in the 54th minute as the Korean added its second goal.

Chinese Hong Kong's coach Lai Sun-cheung said he was satisfied with the team's performance.

"The match was actually closer than the scoreline suggested," said Lai.

"We had our chances, very good chances but failed to convert them. If we had opened the scoring, things could have been different.

"I think we need enhance our players physical abilities, otherwise it's hard for us to make a progress. "
