Yahoo, a leading global Internet company, said on Monday that it will team with Research In Motion in a bid to provide messenger service to BlackBerry users around the world.
Yahoo said its cooperation with RIM, a global wireless leader, will combine two market leaders and brands to deliver an enhanced mobile communications solution.
The two companies plan to pre-install full-color, graphical Yahoo Messenger clients on BlackBerry devices in the coming months, according to Yahoo.
"BlackBerry users will be able to access and connect with everyone on their friends list while they are on the go," Yahoo said in a statement.
The Internet company said its messenger service on the BlackBerry platform will allow consumers to see which friends are online, send and receive instant messages, have multiple conversations at once, participate in online conferences and even send and view emoticons.
BlackBerry, a wireless platform developed by RIM, provides messaging capabilities with its popular keyboards, large screens, intuitive navigation and push-based connectivity.
"Through our relationship with Yahoo!, BlackBerry users will enjoy another powerful communications option to keep them connected while away from their desk," said Mark Guibert, a vice president of RIM.
