Overseas Chinese in Latin America back China's Anti-Secession Law

Overseas Chinese associations and groups in Argentina, Venezuela and Colombia on Monday expressed support for the newly adopted Anti-Secession Law in China.

In Argentina, 19 overseas Chinese associations, led by the Council for Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China in Argentina, issued a joint statement voicing support for the Anti-Secession Law.

"We firmly support the Anti-Secession Law and will try our best to cooperate with China's mainland to actively promote the development of relations across the Taiwan Strait and the peaceful reunification of China," said the joint statement.

The adoption of the law demonstrated the strong will of the entire Chinese people, Taiwan compatriots included, to safeguard China's sovereignty and territorial integrity and to oppose the "Taiwan independence" secessionist forces' attempt to make Taiwan secede from China, the statement added.

The Council for Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China in Venezuela also expressed support for the law in a statement issued on Monday.

The law is a necessary and timely measure adopted by the National People's Congress (NPC) of China at a time when the "Taiwan independence" secessionist forces become more rampant in alienating the island from China, the statement said.

Noting that the law is a strong means to safeguard China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, the council also called on overseas Chinese to work together for an early reunification of China.

Zheng Yannong, board chairman of a Chinese newspaper in Venezuela, said in an interview that the law reflects the people's will as it was adopted with overwhelming support from NPC members.

Zheng, who has lived in Venezuela for 53 years, said the secessionists who try to separate Taiwan from China are traitors to the Chinese nation.

Overseas Chinese groups in Colombia also expressed their support for the Anti-Secession Law in a statement on Monday.

The statement, issued jointly by a Chinese federation in Colombia and the Council for Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China in Colombia, pointed out that the law is the most authoritative one for safeguarding China's peace and stability and the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The commitments made in the law fully conform with the interests of the Chinese people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, and also show the maximum sincerity of the Chinese government and all the Chinese across the world for peaceful reunification.

Overseas Chinese in Colombia expressed in the statement their willingness to work together with Chinese compatriots to promote China's peaceful reunification.
