Overseas Chinese groups in Japan said Tuesday they firmly support the newly passed anti-secession law in China and China's position on the Taiwan issue.

The anti-secession law is an epoch-making legislation which the overseas Chinese in Japan steadfastly support, Chen Kunwang, honorary chairman of the Association of Overseas Chinese in Japan, said at a symposium held in Tokyo.

He said it was recognized worldwide that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable party of China. The Taiwan issue is China's internal affair, allowing no foreign interference in any ways. The legislation is conducive to the peaceful reunification of China as well as to the containment of activities of the secessionist forces in Taiwan.

Yin Qiuxiong, chairman of the association, said the Anti-Secession Law is an opportune law with grand significance in accomplishing the great undertaking of China's reunification.

The law definitely points out that the one-China principle is the basis of peaceful reunification and reunifying the country through peaceful means best serves the fundamental interests of the compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits, Yin said.

He added that the law embodies the utmost sincerity of Chinese government in seeking a peaceful reunification.

The overseas Chinese in Japan will do their utmost for an early peaceful reunification of China, he said.

Fu Yihen, chairman of the Tokyo Overseas Chinese Association, said the adoption of the anti-secession law was a further demonstration of China's policy of governing the country according to law.

The law serves as a solid legal basis for safeguarding China's sovereignty and territorial integrity and handling the Taiwan issue, he said.

Guo Shiyu, president of the Association of Chinese Overseas Students in Japan, said the law conforms to the request of the times, reflecting the spirit of the four-point guideline on cross-Straits relations initiated by Chinese President Hu Jintao and shows the determination of the Chinese government in upholding the One China principle.

Chinese groups in western Japan Tuesday issued a statement, which said the law was a peaceful bill aiming at maintaining the peaceful situation across the Taiwan Straits and the smooth development of cross-strait relations.
