China and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) said Tuesday they would further enhance friendly cooperation between their militaries.
The two sides expressed their willingness to do so when Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan met with visiting DRC President Josef Kabila.
"The Chinese side attaches great importance to the friendship with the DRC military," said Cao, who is also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and state councilor.
Cao said peoples from the two countries enjoy traditional friendship. Since China and the DRC established full diplomatic ties in 1972, the two countries have witnessed cooperation in various fields, giving consistent support to each other in international affairs.
Hoping to further lift the relations, Cao said relations between the two countries' armies have also developed smoothly, maintaining sound exchanges and cooperation.
Kabila briefed Cao on his country's peace process, and hoped that that China would continue to support military construction in the DRC.
The DRC army is willing to increase exchanges and visits with its Chinese counterpart, in a bid to promote relations between the two armies, he said.
Kabila reiterated that his government would stand firmly behind China's one-China policy.
