20 red tourist attractions post 33.26% revenue growth

According to latest statistics released by the National Tourism Administration tourism revenue from China's 20 red tourist attractions reached 20.257 billion yuan in 2004 increasing by 33.26 percent year on year.

Officials with competent departments said it is a form of tourism by which the public's admiration and recall of the revolutionary figures in history and their great achievements as their contemporary spiritual pursuit is guided. It is also to help old revolutionary bases catch up the pace of market economy and realize coordinated economic and social development.

In the year 2004 the Xibaipo tourist zone in Heibei received 460,000 tourists, which increased by 27.78 percent year on year, realized revenue of 4.14 million yuan, which increased by 130 percent year on year. Jinggangshan and Ruijin in Jiangxi received 1.63 million and 0.54 million tourists respectively, which increased by 34.71 percent and 20 percent. Their tourism revenues reached 836 million yuan and 156 million yuan respectively, increasing by 26.67 percent and 33.33 percent.

Red tourist attractions such as Siping in Jilin, Jiaxing in Zhejiang and Shanghang County in Fujiang all realized growth in tourist number and annual tourism revenue.
