Internal disputes emerged in the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on whether to resume armed attacks against Israel, sources close to the group said Saturday.
Hamas and other Palestinian militant groups agreed earlier this month to maintain calmness by the end of this year if Israel fulfilled its commitment in a ceasefire deal declared at the Feb. 8summit.
The sources said the group also failed to reach consensus on whether to take part in the legislative elections scheduled for July 17.
Hardliners of the movement called for a resumption of the anti-Israeli attacks and a withdrawal of its decision to join the parliamentary elections, which it boycotted in 1996, the sources said.
The disagreements may put the radical group's unity in jeopardy, the sources added.
Sixty-two members of Hamas had announced to run in the legislative elections in the West Bank city of Nablus alone.
