Peruvian press laments defeat to Brazil
font size

The Peruvian sports press lamented Monday the 1-0 defeat of the national soccer team versus Brazil, although it expressed confidence for Wednesday's match against Ecuador.

"Peru did what they had to do, but...," "Courage was not enough," "Once again, almost," were some of the headlines in the local press.

Thus, this is the fifth defeat for Peru in 12 matches, to be now in the penultimate position of the South American standings of the qualifying tournament for Germany 2006, with 13 points, followed by Bolivia, which has 10.

The Peruvian team played an away match against Brazil, at Serra Dourada Stadium, of Goiania.

Kaka scored for Brazil after a noticeable play between Ronaldinho and Ronaldo.

Peru's players are confident about defeating Ecuador, who defeated 5-2 Paraguay at Quito, to stay in third position.

Argentina heads the tournament with 25 points, followed by Brazil with 23 and Ecuador with 19.
