Ding beats Bingham for a quarter berth in China Open snooker

Chinese Ding Junhui survives wild card player Stuart Bingham of England 5-4 with a superb lucky performance in the ninth final frame to reach the last eight in the China Open snooker on Thursday.

The former world under-21 champion luckly pot a cool brown ball in to win eventually after lagging behind 16-47 in the deciding frame. His opponet pulled three consecutive frames back after Ding made three centuries in the first five frames to take 4-1 lead.

"I was lucky enough today especially for the brown," responds the Chinese snooker model.

Marco Fu, from Hong Kong, China, sealed the eighth frame with a break of 53 before Dave Harold of England tied the frames 3-3 by potting the black.

"He is a tough guy and gets used to slowly rythm of actions, but I prepared much on defence, which is the main reason of victory," said the top Asian snooker.

In the day's other actions, seven-times world champion Stephen Hendry saw off Ryan Day from Wales 5-1 as world No. 2 Williams moved after 5-2 against Adrian Gunnell from England.

Wild card player Welsh Ricky Walden got through after legend Steve Davis retired due to physical fitness on 0-3 loss.

John Higgins was downed 5-2 by his compatriot world No. 10 Alan McManus.
