Ugandan army kills 50 LRA rebels in March

Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF) has announced that its troops killed 50 rebels from the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels and captured five others in northern part of the country in the just ended month of March.

Ugandan government radio, Radio Uganda Wednesday night quoted the UPDF 4th division spokesman, Taban Kiconco as saying that the government army also rescued over 100 people abducted by the rebels.

The spokesman said that during the same period, they recovered 39 rifles, one rocket propeller gun, 14 magazines, 15 anti-personnel mines and other ammunitions.

He said the rebels were lack of food and medicines in the bush,adding that they had resumed their daring attacks on civilians simply to loot food and gain publicity.

For the last 19 years, northern Uganda has been facing the rebellion of the LRA which has left tens of thousands of people dead and more than 1.4 million displaced.
