Visiting Thai princess, Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, donated 100,000 yuan (12,000 US dollars) Wednesday to a primary school in Xinjiang's Hotan region after visiting it that morning.
The school, which is located under the Kunlun Mountains and on the edge of the desert, has only 100 students.
When the princess came into the classroom of grade one, the Chinese teacher was teaching how to write a written request for leave. She stood at the door and listened, then she joined the children and asked them about their study.
Later the princess posed for pictures with the school children.
Sirindhorn arrived in Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, on Tuesday at noon and flew to Hotan that evening.
The Thai princess is known for her love of Chinese culture and knowledge of literature, music and painting. This is her second trip to Xinjiang and 20th visit to China.
Prior to her arrival in Xinjiang, she visited Beijing and met with Vice President Zeng Qinghong, Vice Chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Gu Xiulian and State Councilor Chen Zhili. She also attended a celebration at the prestigious Beijing University to celebrate her 50th birthday.
Besides Beijing and Xinjiang, she will visit Gansu Province in northwest China and Sichuan Province in the southwest.
