Iran slams Annan's overlook of unilateralism
font size

Iran has slammed the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's overlook of unilateralism in his recent report on UN reform, the official IRNA news agency reported on Friday.

"Regrettably, Secretary General Annan's recent report has almost overlooked the threats arising from the unilateral use of force and violation by the world big powers," Iran's permanent envoy to the UN Javad Zarif was quoted as saying.

Zarif made the remarks on Thursday while speaking at the three-day UN General Assembly meeting in New York, which started on Wednesday and was attended by representatives of various countries to express their views on Annan's recent 62-page report on UN organizational reform.

Zarif told the meeting that in any attempt toward reforming the UN, the outlooks and concerns of all world countries should be taken into account.

Zarif criticized Annan for not including the views of various states and some major international organizations such as the Non-Aligned Movement, the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the G-77 group and so on.

"If the reforms aim to make the UN more efficient, the trend should be quite transparent and the attempts toward this end should be based on collaboration and dialogue, rather than being forced and imposed upon others," Zarif stressed.
