The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is taking efforts to prevent bird flu outbreak in the country, the State Emergency Veterinary and Anti-Epizootic Committee said.

"About 200 emergency committees have been formed and emergency vaccinations against bird flu were applied to all poultry farms," said Ro Du-chol, chairman of the committee.

"Affected chickens in plants where bird flu broke out were incinerated and buried and traffic around the plants is blocked up and outsiders are forbidden to enter the areas," he said.

He said posts have been installed to observe migrants coming into and staying in the country and excrement of birds have been examined in a veterinary way.

Fowls are quarantined thoroughly in the border areas and at harbors and airports. Marketing of poultry and eggs have not been allowed since mid-Feburary.

On March 27, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) admitted for the first time that bird flu has recently broken out in some chicken farms.

Reports said hundreds of thousands of infected chickens had been killed so far.
