Chinese President Hu Jintao will pay a state visit to Indonesia and attend the Asia-Africa summit there in late April. It will be a milestone for enhancing cooperation between China and Indonesia, said Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan in Beijing Monday.

Tang made the remarks in a meeting with Indonesian former president Megawati Soekarnoputri, who is on a stopover in Beijing. Tang said promoting friendly cooperation between China and Indonesia, both important developing countries, accords with the fundamental interests of both.

"Sino-Indonesian relations are witnessing rapid, healthy and stable development and are faced with new opportunities," Tang said.

President Hu's Indonesia visit is an important affair in the relations between the two countries, and is significant for both sides to further increase mutual understanding and to deepen cooperation in various fields, he noted.

Tang said with the joint efforts of Indonesia and other Asian and African countries, the Asia-Africa summit will be held successfully and will inject greater vitality into the development of a New Asian-African Strategic Partnership.

Megawati said she will continue to make efforts to promote friendship between Indonesian and Chinese peoples, and will join hands with China in achieving more progress of Indonesia-China ties.
