Through various technical and managerial means, the State Grid Corporation of China will raise its power transmission capacity by 1.4 million kw this year on trans-provincial lines and other trunk lines; another 1.4 million kw increase can be expected next year.
The corporation focuses its efforts this year on grid upgrading, in an aim to lift transmission capacity in a comprehensive way. A project to raise the transmission capability of 500 kw grids has recently been launched, which will bring visible social and economic returns.
To thoroughly solve the problems of weak transmission capacity and tight power supply in central and east China, we must speed up the construction of a super high-tension network made of million-volt-class AC grids and 800kv-class DC grids, optimize resource distribution on a national scale and coordinate hydraulic and thermal power across provinces and river basins, said Liu Zhenya, president of the corporation.
The corporation will, taking opportunity of the construction of thermal power bases in Shanxi, Shannxi, Inner Mongolia and Ningxia as well as hydraulic power generation centers in southwest China, build a million-volt-class transmission passage in north and central China to link up the north and the south, and at the same time build its synchronous networks. After that, it will expand to east China to create a super high-tension framework and, together with super high-tension AC and DC systems from southwest, construct an overall super high-tension grid covering major power bases and loading centers.
It is expected that around 2020 a pattern of four horizontal lines and six vertical lines will be formed, with the trans-regional transmission capacity of the corporation taking up more than 25 percent of the national total installation capacity.
