Glaciers retreat at the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau: study
font size

The glaciers at the Qinghai -Tibet Plateau have shown an overall trend of retreat, according to researchers with the Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute of CAS who have analyzed materials on glacier change during past 100 years and actual observation materials of past decades.

Owing to the climate change and global warming, glaciers at the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau have taken on an evident trend of shrinking during the past 100 years, and the trend is gradually escalating, although the tip of glaciers had remained stable or even extended in certain period of time. Due to influence of climate difference at the Plateau, the glaciers at central Plateau has experienced far less shrinkage than that of the southern and southeastern part. Glaciers at eastern and southeastern parts of the Plateau have the biggest shrinkage.
