Pakistan favours consensus in UN reform
font size

Pakistan's Permanent Representative in the United Nations, Munir Akrm Thursday said Pakistan favors consensus in the UN Security Council reform process.

Speaking in a PTV programer, Akrm said all the decisions should be taken with consensus as the same are being taken through voting and other means have not been considered as good and appropriate.

He said Pakistan favors that non-permanent members should be inducted in UN Security Council instead of permanent ones.

"New centers of privilege should not be created," he added.

Akrm agreed that the reforms are necessary in the present international scenario. However, there should not be any deadline, he added.

Pakistan said it wanted that reforms process in the United Nations should be started after thorough thinking and consideration.

Meanwhile, Akram said Pakistan fully endorses the UN Secretary General's definition of terrorism that action against civilian should be declared as terrorism. But he said legitimate struggle of self-determination could not be de-legitimized with the stamp of terrorism.

Akram further said that definition of terrorism should also be made with consensus.
