Myanmar, as one of the three advocators of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and one of the five initiators of the Bandung Conference, would urge all nations in the world to stick to the five principles, said a noted scholar of the Myanmar Institute for International Studies (MIIS).
U Nyunt Tin, who is general secretary of the MIIS under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made the remarks in an exclusive interview with Xinhua on the eve of the 50th anniversary of the convening of the Bandung Conference.
As early as in 1954, Myanmar, China and India jointly advocatedthe Five Principles for Peaceful Coexistence and in 1955, Indonesia, India, Myanmar, Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and Pakistan initiated the Bandung Conference.
Nyunt Tin, who was an experienced diplomat, said not only the Bandung Conference was based on the five principles but also the Non-Aligned Movement as well, adding that both the Charter of the United Nations and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) contain the five principles.
Noting that the importance of the five principles is non-interference on each other country's internal affairs and mutual non-aggression, he pointed out that because of having these principles in the past, it was able to prevent the outbreak of a new world war and give rise to an environment for peaceful development. Myanmar believes that if all countries adhere to the five principles there would emerge no conflicts, he said.
Nyunt Tin held that the five principles "has proven right in the past. It is now proven right in the present and in the future also. It will be very beneficial for the whole world".
He stressed that Myanmar attaches much importance to the five principles, on which Myanmar's diplomacy is based. Myanmar has never interfered in others' internal affairs and will not toleratesuch interference in its internal affairs by others, he warned, adding that the country will stick to the policy in the long run which is Myanmar's foreign policy.
Concluding the interview, Nyunt Tin hopes all countries in the world would carry on the five principles, blessing for world peace.
