font size

One hundred and eight Chinese soldiers arrived in Beijing Wednesday from the Democratic Republic of Congo after accomplishing their part of a UN peacekeeping operation there.

The group is a branch of the third team that China dispatched to the African country. It included two units, an engineering team from general staff headquarters and a medical one from a hospital of Shenyang Military Area, northeast China.

The peace-keepers helped pave 90 kilometers of roads, prospect roads of more than 1,000 kilometers long and build two air stations.

They also leveled grounds occupying 100,000 square meters, destroyed four batches of weaponry, provided medical services for more than 1,129 people, and conducted 26 surgeries.

The UN awarded all 218 members of the Chinese third team with UN peacekeeping medals before their return. Their mission lasted eight months. The first group of the fourth team in the UN peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo left Beijing Monday.
