Togo's interim President Abass Bonfoh said on Friday elections slated for Sunday would take placeas scheduled, despite an earlier call by the interior minister fora delay.

"The president of the republic reassures the people and the international community that the voting will take place next Sunday as planned," President Bonfoh said.

As fears of violence prevail ahead of the elections, Interior Minister of the West African country Francois Boko, who is organizing the poll, urged to postpone it at a news conference called in the middle of the night.
