Senior Chinese official calls for advancing social science

A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) here Friday called on social scientists to strive to advance the country's philosophical and social scientific research.

Liu Yunshan, head of the Department of Publicity of the CPC Central Committee, urged researchers to promote the development of philosophy and social science based on national conditions and the construction of a formal innovation system for philosophy and social science theories at a meeting which reviews the projects applying for national social science funding.

Stressing the need to manage well the review, approval, administration and implementation of major social science projects, he said the national social science fund should be used properly for building a social science talent pool.

More than 300 social scientists attended the meeting to review the projects nominated for this year's national social science funds.
