Haiti's interim Foreign Minister Gerard Abraham on Tuesday reiterated opposition to the return of exiled ex-President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, who was ousted in a coup last year.
In an interview with the press in Port of Spain, capital of Trinidad and Tobago, Abraham said that Haiti's interim government and "most of the Haitian people" would not welcome his return evenif some Haitians might want him back.
There will not be any problem if Aristide comes back as an ordinary Haitian, Abraham added.
He also denied accusations that the interim government persecuted the opposition and trade unions.
Abraham, who arrived in Port of Spain on Tuesday, held talks with officials of the secretariat of the Caribbean Community on the situation in Haiti. He also met with Trinidad and Tobago's Foreign Minister Kownlson Gift.
Last year, the Caribbean Community revoked the membership of Haiti, demanding an international probe into the coup that took place in February 2004 and toppled the elected Aristide government. Most members of the Caribbean Community have subsequently refused to recognize the interim government.
