Mainland expects more consensus with Soong: official
font size

Spokesman for the Taiwan Work Office of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) Central Committee Wang Zaixi said in Beijing Tuesday that the Chinese mainland expects more consensus to be reached with James Soong, chairman of the People First Party (PFP) in Taiwan, during his upcoming visit to the mainland. The CPC has reached a wide range of agreements on the promotion of cross-Straits relations and the easing of the escalating tensions with the Kuomintang (KMT) Party of China during its Chairman Lien Chan's historic eight-day visit.

"But the PFP is still different from the KMT," Wang said. "I believe Mr. Soong will demonstrate his own characteristics during the coming visit", which is scheduled to start on Thursday.

"Through concerted efforts, I believe we will reach more consensus on promoting cross-Straits relations," Wang said.
