Iran will resume certain nuclear activities: FM spokesman

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi said on Tuesday that Iran will resume certain nuclear activities, but it would maintain a freeze on uranium enrichment.

"Very certainly we will resume some of our nuclear activities, but this does not concern uranium enrichment," Asefi said.

The spokesman also pledged continued negotiations with Britain, France and Germany on Iran's nuclear issue.

"The negotiations are continuing, and as long as they continue, the suspension of enrichment will continue," he said.

Earlier on Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi also pledged the country's continued cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog, terming the cooperation as "positive and constructive."

On the sidelines of the UN conference to review the nuclear Non-Proliferation-Treaty (NPT), Kharazi made the pledge at a meeting with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director-General Mohammad ElBaradei in New York.

He briefed ElBaradei on Tehran's negotiations with the EU trio France, Germany and Britain on its nuclear program and said Iran is resolved to cooperate with IAEA to remove existing ambiguities.

"We hope the conference will take serious and unbiased steps to safeguard the legitimate rights of all the member countries of the NPT," he added.
